Welcome to the Carlaw Family Vacation Home on Beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene

Location

The house is located on the east shore of the lake, 12 miles off Interstate 90, on State Highway 97. The house is approximately 1/2 mile south of Driftwood Point, about 20 miles by car from the house to the City of Coeur d'Alene or about 7 miles by boat.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Coeur d'Alene area, there are many summer time attractions, in addition to the lake itself. The downtown waterfront features the city park and public dock, with the many contemporary shops, boutiques, antique stores and restaurants. About 20 miles to the north is the Silverwood Theme Park, with its 540 acres of rides, water slides and two of the biggest and wildest wooden structured roller coasters you'll ever want to ride on. To the east of our house, about 45 minutes on I-90 in Kellogg you can ride the world's longest gondola to the top of Silver Mountain and enjoy mountain biking, hiking on the ridge tops or enjoying folk music festivals in the evening air. If your family is into bicycling or in-line skating, there is a brand new, paved Trail of the Coeurd’Alenes, which can be accessed on the Coeur d’Alene River about 8 miles south of the house and winds its way up the river and through the chain lakes to the Bitteroot mountains, a total of about 55 miles of near level grade biking. The trail can be accessed via highway at many points along the route, with rest stops and picnic areas all along the trail. You can even bike south from Harrison along the Lake and over the southern part of the Lake at the Historic Chatcolet Railroad Bridge.

For the more adventuresome, take the Route of the Hiawatha Trail one of the most breathtaking scenic stretches of rail trail in the country, winding through more than 10 tunnels and 7 high trestles of the original Northern Pacific rail line. Both trips are spectacular, level to easy grade biking. Kellogg and nearby Wallace also feature tours of the silver mining industry of days past, including a tour deep into a silver mine. For those of you, like myself, who enjoy fly fishing, travel up the St. Joe River and cast a fly to the native cutthroat trout. Check with the Castaway Fly Shop in Coeur d’Alene for information on conditions, equipment and guided trips. For the golfing enthusiast, the Coeur d’Alene area sports many fine courses, including the Coeur d’Alene Resort’s famous floating green. (see Majestic North Idaho)
